The mini crawler market has grown substantially over recent years and the addition of the Axial® 1/24th SCX24™ was a welcome inclusion. In this post we are going to discuss what we like about the SCX24™, what we dislike about it and whether we think that it is worth spending your hard earned cash.

The fact that this mini crawler comes TOTALLY RTR is definitely a plus for the folks that are just getting in to R/C. That’s right, it comes fully assembled and includes EVERYTHING required to get crawling. You just need to find something to climb over.

Parts Availability
Axial® has been around for many years, is well known in the industry and parts from online hobby stores or local brick-and-mortar hobby shops should be easily found. We ordered a replacement body and some brass upgrades from an online hobby shop that had them in stock and they were delivered in a few days.
Price
The listed price on the Axial® varies at the time of this post from $109.99 US to $129.99 US depending on the variation of the SCX24™ that you choose. For a completely Ready-to-Run vehicle of this caliber, we think this price is a steal. The working LED’s, scale looks and crawling capability are in the top of its class and the price is another huge selling point.
Speed
It’s a 1/24th scale mini crawler…what did you expect?
Durability
Thus far, knock on wood, we have had no breakages. Grant it we are not jumping the SCX24™ off of any large cliffs or launch ramps. It simply rolls over every now and then during a crawl. Crawlers are built for climbing, not jumping and we would expect that most crawlers are going to be durable for that very reason. Now the parts included on the SCX24™ do seem well made. It is a bit fragile just because of its stature, but we do not feel like the crawler is poorly constructed.
Fun
If we could give the SCX24™ a 10 for this category we would. It is an absolute blast! It’s an exceptionally capable crawler for its size and the size is what makes it so much fun. This little crawler is right at home in the back yard on a pile of rocks and dirt or in your office climbing your laptop and mouse pad. Another great option for a crawler this size is a custom built crawler layout build from items laying around your house or garage. We are building one of these as we write this article and will include a link to the post when we are done.
Overall Bashability
Overall, we think that the Axial® SCX24™ is an exceptional R/C mini crawler that will provide enjoyment to skilled and new R/C’ers alike. With its compact size, scale looks and crawling capability, the SCX24™ is a mini rock crawler to be reckoned with.
We also love the price. For around $110 US, anyone can be crawling around the yard within 30-45 minutes of unpacking that box. Now the batteries in our crawlers came slightly charged and would sustain a few minutes of testing, but you should definitely charge the battery fully before a real run. Obviously we don’t recommend launching this little crawler off of a skate board ramp at full throttle, but bashing around the house, backyard or the woods is right up its ally.
